Remake's - Will they happen?

Movies have been remade in every conceivable format possible (Star Wars has had 5 i think?) - will this happen with games that were previously released on older gen consoles (Halo for example)?

It has to be a really big game that sold well for a studio to consider it. Its almost as hard to do a remake than to make a new game (which would bring in a lot more money).

I think Final Fantasy 7 is VERY likely to be remade due to its massive fan support. With Halo I think most fans would prefer Halo 4 to a remake unless of course its sent to a development house other than Bungie.

I'm surprised Bungie hasn't cashed in by releasing a boxed set containing Halo 1-3 on the Xbox 360.

Most remakes these days seem to be either for Xbox Live Arcade (and equivalents) or handhelds.

What surprises me is the belief a FFVII remake would be on the Sony Platform. Remakes are generally on alternative platforms (Ninja Gaiden for example) and don't forget you can already play FFVII PS1 version on a PS3. I'm sure Microsoft would be actively looking at getting any remake

Well I know of a few "remakes" that are coming -

i) Half-Life 2 - having already been on Xbox, it's coming to Xbox 360 + PS3 to jazz it up a bit

ii) Bully / Canis Canem Edit - PS2 version is coming to the Xbox 360 with new visuals

iii) Chronicles of Riddick - Xbox/PC version is being done again for Xbox 360 + PS3

Well Golden Axe is supposed to be coming, not sure if you qualify that as a remake or not.

Resident Evil on the Gamecube was sort of a remake, pretty much the same game but some nice new areas and stories thrown in.

I always thought Elite was one game that needed to be remade, but the more i think about it the more i dont think it would work so well now, it would have to be a drastic change to the base game as I think it would feel to old. Think it would work better as a xboxlive arcade game and/or a PSN game and there has been a few rumors about this going about lately. Quite a few games have tried to go down the same road as elite the X games, Darkstar one spring to mind but none have been able to have the same hold over me as Elite did, maybe i was a lot younger and Elite was totally different to anything else then.
I would like to see a FF7 remake but it wouldnt be the same as I first played it, still think the way it handed materia was great, but the whole game was fresh and new to me (first JRPG i played), a remake just wouldnt feel the same to me and i expect many others. Personally I dont think you can remake a classic game and it be as good as the original , for example no one would dare to remake the Godfather trilogy or the first three Starwars films as it just wouldnt be the same. A remake of the Starwars films with better sound, acting (lol) and effects still wouldnt be as good as the original as it would have the same effect as when it was released all those years ago. Same as FF7 im sure many people got into JRPGs on the strength of that game so its intial WOW factor would be lost in a remake.

There have been numerous remakes over the years.

Golden Axe & Sensible Soccer come to mind recently. Then there was Resident Evil before.
The reason for so many original or continuation of games is because not all avenues of ideas have been used in games. This is where the idiots in Hollywood keep going wrong.

To be honest, I couldn't care less what console it came to :D If square decided to release a SquareBox console, Just for the purpose of running Final Fantasy 7 I'd walk out the door on release day, Buy it and play it. Only afterwards would I release how much of an evil money making ploy it was :p

But seriously, Xbox 360 or PS3 OR BOTH, I'd welcome it with open arms.

Square-enix still haven't announced any remake of FF7. So far everything is just rumours.

FF4 however, is being remade and looks awesome.

I would love to see a proper remake of both of the System shock games as well as Xwing and the Tie fighter games from lucasarts :)

Elite with the graphics of X3 Reunion would be sweet too.

I've heard rumours of a new Elite game being in development by a studio that has worked in the past on an exclusive Xbox360 title.
