Pretty decent
Now bring me a Frontier version

Just grabbed Oolite! Damn good, runs great at 1280x960 full screen and straight from the off my Sidewinder Precision Pro 2 works just fine. Although the throttle won't work, but hey that's no biggy.

“Can do better than that.

Official version of FFE 1.06. *YES - IT'S LEGAL*”

Now you just need someone to upload the full 528meg CD version which in my opinion is far better then the floppy disk version.

Elite 3 the CD version is by far the best space game out. I still play it now with the jjffe mod to up the resolution the game runs at. The only game that comes close is Eve-Online.

As far as i know David Braben is still working on the NEW Elite game which is supposed to be a mmorpg. Wether its still in development or just something thats been lost to time.... who knows.

A PROPER elite game set as a mmorpg would be very good indeed.

Last I heard it had been heavily delayed. He is an old school programmer in a new world, its going to take him forever doing it solo which I bet he mainly is. On the original elite he had the help of a coproducer at least

Slight understatement there!

I believe the phrase you were looking for is this. It'll be the best thing ever created since mavity decided to act upon a super-dense, super-heated mass of matter about 13.7 billion years ago!

I promised myself I would never buy another game that braben wrote\designed. Not after the bugged elite sequels.

Nah - game is in dev but Braben is not happy with the current state of technology vs what he actually wants to achieve with the game. Game is definitely no due for release...

Aside from the bugs, Frontier was a work of art.

No other game besides MMORPG's, has managed to suck up so much of my time, I dedicated months to that game.

Dont blame braben for that.... blame Konami/gametek for releasing the wrong verion early and not admitting it and then not actually ever releasing the FINNISHED version. There was a big thing about it at the time as i remember.

Braben is a great guy and really cannot be blamed for the fiasco surrounding the last game to have the "Elite" name.
Mr. Braben and his company used to buy a lot of computer equipment from us when I worked for a retail company (Evesham Micros).
I have personally sold him computers and then when I changed jobs from selling PC's to my first Technical Support role I have dealt with his issues and also visited onsite to fix machines.

I won't for a second say we are "best friends" and I haven't spoken to the guy in years.
At the time nobody else knew who he was - me, being one of the biggest fans of all the Elite games did.
On the occasions I went onsite he did tell me a few of the stories of the later Elite games.
He was under amazing pressure to get things released with release dates not being pushed back as they tend to be these days, but pulled forward.
There is very little you can tell a publisher when contracts are in place and they in effect own every line of code you write.

As I said above I haven't spoken to him in years and Elite IV was never anything he mentioned to me so I don't know anything specific.
However I've known about Elite IV as a project for a while (It's been a far distance pre-order on Play for at least a year) and hopefully it will be modern day graphics but a step back to the original - because if it is I'll buy it, love it and probably never play anything else ever again :)
