A big thanks to the admins(Gilly) for giving me the go ahead to do a post count action, for Remembrance Day.

A good tribute and information on Remembrance day
http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/remembrance/
What is Remembrance Day?

Remembrance Day is on 11 November. It is a special day set aside to remember all those men and women who were killed during the two World Wars and other conflicts. At one time the day was known as Armistice Day and was renamed Remembrance Day after the Second World War.

Remembrance Sunday is held on the second Sunday in November, which is usually the Sunday nearest to 11 November. Special services are held at war memorials and churches all over Britain. A national ceremony takes place at the cenotaph in Whitehall, London.

Why the poppy?
Scarlet poppies (popaver rhoeas) grow naturally in conditions of disturbed earth throughout Western Europe. The destruction brought by the Napoleonic wars of the early 19th Century transformed bare land into fields of blood red poppies, growing around the bodies of the fallen soldiers.

In late 1914, the fields of Northern France and Flanders were once again ripped open as the First World War raged through Europe's heart.

The significance of the poppy as a lasting memorial symbol to the fallen was realised by the Canadian surgeon John McCrae in his poem In Flanders Fields. The poppy came to represent the immeasurable sacrifice made by his comrades and quickly became a lasting memorial to those who died in the First World War and later conflicts.

A fitting poem, to remember the dead by.
For The Fallen
With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England’s foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.

the auction itself will run from Friday evening till a sensible time on Sunday the 11th. All money raised will be donated to the (http://www.britishlegion.org.uk)The Royal British Legion
The Royal British Legion provides financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served and are currently serving in the Armed Forces, and their dependants. Currently, nearly 10.5 million people are eligible for our support and we receive thousands of calls for help every year.

The Legion was founded in 1921 as a voice for the ex-Service community and over 450,000 members continue to ensure that this voice does not go unheard. Although the needs of ex-Service people have changed over the years, we are still there to safeguard their welfare, interests and memory. British service people are in action around the world every day of the year. They know that if they need our support - now or in the future - the Legion is always on active duty for them.

I will be donating my 20k+ posts, If you would like to also donate your posts then please sign up here, stating how many posts you wish to donate. Hopefully we will have enough to split the posts into 3 prizes, to raise more money. (rank and MM access will remain un-affected by post donations)

Sorry for being thick here. How does this actually work?

Hopefully will get at least 35k posts (depends how many posts are donated)
the top winner would get 20k
2nd 10k
3rd 5K

The Winners can then either pay on the justgiving website, or Dilly has a special bank account set up for donations, that he's willing to lend us. Gilly will then pass the money on.
Once money is confirmed the mods will then update your post count.

Surely the winner doesn't get any 'posts' but more a number altered to provide that illusion ;)
if you want to be pedantic then yes your right :p

Could I dontate all mine? Im not that bothered about post counts anyway. People know me on here so that wont have an effect on how members treat me. etc etc.

I would probably give all mine away. I know thats not a lot but would help for the charity.

You could take 5k of mine if you want, I don't have as many to give as last time but the count itself doesn't matter much to me. I've only just managed to get back to having more posts than subscribed threads again. :)

Excellent idea!

Wish I had a sig to go with the occasion? Anyone fancy lending me one? :P

Going to see my brother this weekend, he lives in Bletchley, next to the famous Bletchley Park where they did all the decoding.

I was there last year as well, the local schools and people do a piece at their statue to the fallen.

Slight off topic, Commandos is on tonight which has followed a group going through training, dad told me one of them is killed shortly after going to Iraq.

Remembrance Sunday is not for the past fallen, but todays fallen also!

I shall be donating my MONEY, awaits Friday's auction.
