Reminder Software

Does anyone know of any software where a user could enter bits of information they need to remember, if possible from anywhere (by using a keyboard shortcut). This would then display in a periodic list to remind the user later.

Any ideas? Preferably free?

Cheers guys, any other ideas as I was just after something lightweight where it could sit in the background, be invoked by a key press and any notes/info could be typed and saved for future reference?
