remote access software and firewall

Just wondering what remote software people use for their systems, servers specificly im interested in, as im currently using realvnc enterprise, ive left remote desktop as its not secure enough,

also any reccomendations for firewall on server, currently only using windows firewall, would prefer one that wont cost but am open to pay ones,

Firewall.....set up monowall on another box running linux is good....

Remote desktop i jus use RDC built into windows, there are security issues??
