Ok, so im at work, i want to use PC Anywhere to connect remotely to my server so i can carry out various tasks.

The network infrastructure is as follows...

(Work router) ----> Internet------>(Home router)------>Server & workstations

If i wanted to connect to my server, would i set-up pc anywhere on the server machine acting it as a host. Also forward the relevant ports on my router to forward all traffic to them ports directly to the servers I.P Address (192.168.1.3).

At work then would i open up pc anywhere and connect to the host machine (Stating the I.P address that my service provider has given me) 72.25.blah.blah?

Pretty much exactly as you said, however if you havent already paid for Pc Anywhere, then may I suggest www.logmein.com, which is free and web based which means no messing about with firewall configs, no worries about not being at the right PC with the PC anywhere software on as you use the website as a control panel and then can control your PC from anywhere at all.

Plus you can put it on as many PC's as you like and all is good ::)

To get to the free account, click the "Create an account" button in the top right of the main page, then select LogMeIn Free on the next page.

had a quick go on it, it looks good and does what i need it to do but it is quite slow. I dont know the reasons why. Ill give it another go =

Whenever I have used it, it has been very fast even over ISDN.

Try lowering all the GFX settings on the remote machine, disable all the effects on the menu's and the wallpaper etc.

use rras (vpn) on your server, then remote desktop into the server its that easy. oh port forward vpn from the router to the server. once you vpn into your server you can log on to any remote dt in that network.

^^ did this with my server. this is, of course, assuming that you have access to Remote Desktop at work
