Hi all,

Wiring a sub into my mates car and we are struggling to get the remote turn on to work.

We have tested all the cables and they are fine. We have put a little wire from the 12v on the amp to the remote on the amp to bridge it and that fine works a treat so we think the remote on the stereo is broke.

Its a Mk4 fiesta and I was wondering if we tap into the ignition or live feed on the stereo instead of using the remote wire would this work and not drain the battery? The stereo only comes on with ignition so I was thinking it would be ok.

Thanks
Pete

Unless you could set up something, maybe a Wheatstone Bridge/relay? To essentially detect when the head unit is turned on and trigger a relay that then connects the amp to ignition live.

What is the max current draw on the HU for its trigger, and how much does the amp actually draw.

Despite being a simple signal mechanism, there is surprising levels of current involved, I've seen over 100 mA.

Its only a little amp on a Fli active 10 sub nothing major. On the wiring diagram there is a Ignition wire and a Battery wire, which one should I tap in to?

Ignition live is the one you want. And even a small sub will use considerably more than 0.1A.. how many watts peak is it rated for? (Unless it says max power draw). Then divide by 12, add 20% for good measure, and stick in a suitable fuse if you're feeling like being safe.
