remote app to control itunes on your pc

whenever i try to 'add itunes library' it says to click on 'my ipod' in the devices list in itunes....but when i do this it just shows the normal screen thats always on itunes when its connected, its supposed to ask for the code displayed on the ipod
any ideas ?

Have you turned on home sharing in iTunes?

tried the home sharing way too but on the ipod it just says to turn on home sharing on itunes, which i have done and it says it's on
tried turning firewall off
ive copied files from my pc to my ps3 via wireless before so dont think theres anything wrong with the router setup etc

got this working by connecting the pc to the router with a wireless adapter, no idea why that makes a difference as it's still connected to the same router
