I have just noticed a programme called Remote Assistance in Windows XP. I did not install it and it has only very recently appeared.

It brings up the Help & Support page and you can apparently link to a friend's computer and get or give assistance with problems.

Has anyone tried this and does it work?

Does anyone know where this came from, has it been installed as part of an XP automatic update?

Windows Remote Assistence is for sharing a desktop over MSN Messenger allowing someone else to 'take a look' it's built on Remote Desktop.

Windows Remote Desktop is a method of connecting remotely to your home computer whether it's LAN or over the Internet.

To enable it RIGHT CLICK MY COMPUTER > PROPERTIES > REMOTE DESKTOP > CHECK ALLOW.

I would only keep it enabled if you intend to use it, if not uncheck.
