Hi lads,

Setting up a system for a client, to back up his work computer from home. He is giving me a system which i updating the HDD in to bigger faster running ones.

Whats the best way to set it up for remote backup ?

Either use software like acronis or equivalent ..

Or use ip addresses and map the work drive and allow it to backup ?

im putting 2 x 500GB in the machine

Any advice would be great, as i have done abit of setting up servers and stuff, but want it done right, as it will lead to more work. Im 18 by the way, company for 2 years running getting bigger and better slowly but surely.

thanks in advance.

Is there a reason you can't just backup to the cloud, Mozy for example?

To be honest I am slightly struggling to clearly picture what you're trying to accomplish.

So wait, he's backing up from work to home? How much data is there to backup & how much changes every week? (ie 500GB of data in total, 500MB changing each day)

How fast are the internet connections in each location?

If he's going over a wan connection, and has a lot of data, your going to need to good speeds for it to be decent.

Large backups are best done locally. If you want to backup stuff to the web there are services available but I wouldnt think about it if your looking at a big daily backup

Going to need a connection with good upload, most likely fibre
