I am looking for a simple remote control boat to use with my kids. Who are both around aged around 5 so nothing complicated or OTT. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations

I wasn't really planning on responding to this, but you did inspire me to look at RC boats on Amazon. At which point I stumbled across this: http://amzn.eu/broFc9P

Nothing special, aside from their glorious product images of the boat in action. This is my favourite:

I have two gather dust in my shed. You can't use them anywhere these days unless you are part of a club. Everywhere I have gone I have had somebody shouting at me saying it is not allowed Pond, River or lake.

I have a Speed boat using two 540 extreme motors upgraded from Chinese 380's. I also have a red Hydrofoil using two 540 liquid cooled motors all home built from cheap Chinese toy hulls.

Everywhere I take them I get escorted off by council workers.

As above, I'd seriously consider if you'll ever actually be able to use it.

Unless the local lake is not used by anyone else, or near any form of steward the likelihood is unless it's a tiny slow boat you'll be asked to leave.

Used to have a couple that I used to take out on Hanley park lake. That was up until about 10 years ago when something changed, because now rather than the jolly parkie we used to have who sat down and had a chat with you the place is now filled with shouty jobsworths in hi-vis vests who abhor any form of fun.

Had a few, always ended up getting ignored and left in the garage for cars or fixed wing.
I think I have at least one naff one i saved at a car boot somewhere still in there.
Planned to drop some big motors in, never got around to it!

Well there's a ponderous battleship cheapo boat on amazon that is unlikely to offend and might be easier for a 5yr old to control

*Disclaimer* I am not an RC guy but i have had a play on these things

If you want something cheap and really fun, i have had a good go at this one:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mayhem-RCB...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=EKFSHY2EM463CG4P44AY

It is quick, way quicker than you would expect something of this price to be. It was sturdy-ish but head on full speed collisions with immovable objects will likely end it half the time, so one to consider if its for your kids.

Here is a video i quickly found of it:

Great fun. i will also echo what others have said about making sure your local lake/pond is good with it, especially if it is a water where a fishing club pays to use.

Have any of you tried using them in a Canal? Will someone still complain?

I saw a few people that seemed to be a club with model boats in the canal at a marina not far from me.

I'd be surprised if there would be any problem with sailing them on canals, with the exception of needing to be conscientious about the noise proximity to people living on canal boats.

I live near a canal - not seen any RC boats, but there are some quiet spots that would be pretty good.
