Hi,

I'm looking for advice on how you can connect and take control of another computer via an internet connection. My uncle who lives a little too far to just travel over often phones me up asking for help and advice for his music production computer.

Sometimes i may need to adjust a setting or two just to get it working, and it would be really benificial if i could do this just by 'remote connecting' to his computer and taking control. Of course this is with his permission, but i know he would be pleased if he could see what i was doing, so that in the future he could do it himself.

Is there anything like this around. I dont really want to pay, but if it isnt a lot i will do if it makes it easier to do (i'm not amazingly computer literate!).

Thanks.
Nathan. :)

You can do it via Windows Live Messenger, and of course the built in Windows Remote Desktop (depending on OS). You could also look at a VNC option, however I suspect doing it via WLM will be most pain free.

I use logmein (www.LogMeIn.com)

It's free and it's fantastic.

This.

You will need an account on the PC to connect, or know the password for another user. I use this on all my PCs and my familys PCs. You just have to install the client onto the machine and sign into your account so then whenever the PC is connected to the internet, it can eb connected to from the website. For PCs that arent yours, create a user account for yourself and then hide it using the reg hack for it (google 'hide user account windows) and then it wont look like you have an account on there computer, but you will be able to log in thru logmein fine.

I cant recomend it enough.

Dyndns.org? a bit more complex to set up but can use from anywhere without installing extra software etc

for my own pc, i'd always use hamachi & remote desktop.

for any random person, i'd use logmein

super simple for them to install and works well :)

Can LogMeIn be used on local network aswell as over the internet ?

Thx jay.

I have been using Radman for years and feel like a change.

logmein can be used if the network HAS internet.. otherwise, vnc / remote desktop is the way to go
