I'm looking for something that's basically a remotely operated opening box, the usage being to drop some confetti/ticker tape. It can look like anything, it could be a toy or whatever, just not expensive.

Any ideas? :/

Cheap. Maplin. Does not comprehend.

OP: A knock off Arduino from Amazon, a cheap Bluetooth module using SPI or I2C from eBay, a servo and some gears and this app:

Oh and some very basic coding and libraries.

If he wants to do it over the internet...WiFi enabled Arduino makes sense.

If it's localised that's an expensive, overkill way of achieving it.

RC Control + RC Receiver and 1 Servo. job done. Could even cannibalise the cheapest of cheap RC cars to re-purpose for the job.

black bag filled with confetti

tape to ceiling

tie the opening of the black bag with a rope

when you pull the rope the confetti falls out of the bag on the ceiling

submit patent application

google RC bomb bay

all you really need is a servo , transmitter , battery pack and RC remote

probably like 10-20$ on hobbyking

Seriously, an Airsoft Claymore could do the job.

Video below, but they work with a spring loaded band that holds "ammo" and are wireless operated. Can be had for about £55 delivered.

If you had a couple of these they might even work from on the ground AND above and be able to project the confetti into shot.
