Remote desktop and transfer speed

Has anyone got any experience using remote desktop to transfer files over big WAN connections. If you had a 40Mbit line would you get ~40Mbit transfer speed or is their some restriction on the speed remote desktop / terminal services can transfer files. Will be using win2003 server and xp pro.

Use a FTP Client, Much easier and secure.

I know I can use other software. I was wondering if anyone has done this with Remote desktop. NB: remote desktop is also 'secure'.
