Windows 8 standard edition doesn't come with remote desktop functionality built in.

Currently I am using Chrome Remote desktop which works quite well, however it does have the added delay of going through the internet.

I was looking to find some free software that will allow a local connection and avoid the added round trip through the internet.

Thanks.

Go use VNC, it's decent. There's plenty of RDP-alt software out there. Some lad said TeamViewer, iit looks good. Also SplashTop is good, it has some gaming gear so you can get Xbox 360 graphics on your phone (by rendering on PC) but not had it work here hope to get it going soon

Ultra VNC is VNC but Ultra, TightVNC iS very Tight but none are Real like Real VNC. :D

At work I use UltraVNC, but they all work pretty much in the same way so it's down to personal preference.

You'll need to install the server side on any computer you wish to remote into and then it also comes with a VNC viewer you'll need to install on the computer you are remoting from although you can also remote in using a web browser via http://computer-name:5800

Once set up it's pretty much exactly the same as RDP to use.

So from my research Real, Tight and Ultra Vnc all have the same underlying architecture but with different features.

Since I don't need any features other than the least-laggy control of my PC on LAN only I can choose any?

We use TeamViewer at work, however that's a paid version so I'm unaware if the free one has the same capability.

If not UltraVNC (or any VNC related product) will do the trick.
