I have a second pc set up as a pvr and it's controlled totally by remote from this one , how ever I seem to be having a few problems.I'm not sure if they're a limitation of windows remote desktop or whether I've set something wrong. In general it works ok , except for a few problems.

Colour. A few programs refuse to work saying they need 32bit colour , I can't seem to get it on remote desktop :(.
Sound drivers. It appears to use the remote desktops sound drivers or control. When I double click the volume tab , I get a very basic one , rather than the creative one (remote pc has a sb live 5.1 in). So I can't really control the line in volume.
Finally , the picture from what the tv tuner is on does not show only get the sound from it.Not so much of a problem as really only use to record , but would be nice if I could see the picture.

I've got the remote desktop set to LAN settings , but these problems still exsist. So I'm not sure if there is something else to set? or are they just a limitation of the remote desktop?. If so is there any third party remote desktops that can be installed and used?. Ideally I'd like to get as close as possible to as if I was logged on normally.

:(. So what I've got now is best I can get?.

Currently I just log on , set it to record , then it dumps into a shared folder. Then I grab the video from that , then do whatever needs to be done here.

Thanks.

do you know about windows file and folder sharing?

right click the folder that the videos are stored in, then click share (allow read access to all)

now on the main pc, do start, run "\\nameofpc2" and it'll show the share, you can now run the videos from your main pc without having to enter remotely..

not sure if this is what you're after..

you could also try using tightvnc[/v] instead of remote desktop, might give you a different 'experience', but won't be good for media

Shared folder is pretty much what I do at the moment. I log in remotely and tell the pc to record X from whatever channel , straight into a shared folder. Then access that from here and do whatever I need with the videos.

Just wanted to see if there was more advanced remote desktop that would give a few more options (like access to the creative sb volume control) , but it would seem there isn't :(.

Remote ware (VNC, Terminal Services (Remote Desktop) RCO (CA Remote Desktop, etc) is not designed for what you are saying. I would imagine it cant refresh the screen quick enough for you to view it.

There 'may' be a application out there which will allow you to stream live content from one machine to another out there but i doubt it.
