Trying to set this up and I now believe I need to use Voodoo or something.

I am aware of port forwards, have even set the internal IP on the DMZ, still unable to allow a user to access the system remotely.

No 3rd party firewall.

Windows Firewall set to "allow".

Any tips welcomed.

Thank you.

Can this external user reach port 3389 on your external IP? I presume you're forwarding the correct port, 3389/tcp to your Windows box?

Ask them to telnet to it, if they get connection refused or similar then it isn't going to work.

As a test disable the Windows firewall completely and see if that makes any difference.

In the past i've used Hamachi for this, it's ideal for simple set-up's where for example you need to remote in to a PC or transfer files via a VPN but it's impractical to set something up off site. It's no substitute for a proper VPN/RDP set-up but it's stupidly easy to set-up and works with minimal user intervention at the other end. Other options exist, but depending on what you need this may get you out of a jam.

So the machine you want to control is sat in a DMZ zone open to the entire world with RDP port open?
That's incredibly brave of you.

2 solutions that spring to mind are VPN or even easier, Teamviewer.
