hi all,

I have a windows 2003 server that has suddenly become very picky about remote desktop connections.

Most of the time it will fail to connect with the usual message, but last night I managed to connect to it ok. I did some work on it and then switched to another server that needed updating.

I then went to return to my 1st server and the remote connection had dropped out.

Normally the connection stays open all the time (although it does timeout and ask you to re-enter the password upon maximising the window)

All settings are correct and as I managed to connect last night I'm worried that it something more.

A Anti-Virus scan brought up nothing and apart from this issue the server is running fine.

Has anyone got any ideas as to why it's so temperamental??

Any other checks I can do, apart from making sure remote connections are enabled and selecting the allowed users???

Cheers guys.

Can you connect to the main console with the command "mstsc /console" from either a cmd prompt or the Run option?

You might want to look to see if there are any idle/unclosed RDP connections?

Hi guys,

This is over LAN.

I've tried connecting with the console switch but it still fails to connect.

I can ping the server in under 1 second, so it timing out can't be an issue.

I'm bagging my head against a brick wall with this...
