Remote desktop?

Properties tab of my computer > Remote | Check the box
Then forward port 3389 and allow it through your firewall
Then you just run it (start > run mstsc ) enter the IP and hit connect.

A nice alternative/addition is LogMeIn which is browser based and works through NAT (but not firewalls of course).

I didn't think you could remote into XP since it's not a server OS. I thought you had to go through the remote assistance stuff which XP has.

Should be fine.

Allow remote connections on the XP Machine, to do this Right Click on My Computer > Remote. In the "Remote Desktop" Frame, check the Allow box. OK.

Go onto the client machine and open Remote Desktop connection window (Run 'mstsc' (without the quotes - this might not work on Vista) and browse for computers to connect to.

Make sure the PCs are in the same workgroup.

XP Professional you can remote connection too, XP Home you can only make connections to XP Pro or Server boxes.

Thanks guys, one thing how do I add a user as it's asking for user and password.
is it just a normal computer user or is it some special user?

now if you install hamachi on that machine, and on a remote machine (ie not one on the same network)

you can control it from anywhere over hamachi using remote desktop (and have filesharing etc) :)

I've recently had a go with Logmein and find it really easy. Free to use, and you get a 30 day trial of the Pro version. I'd recommend giving it a go :)
