Hi all.

I have 3 PCs at home, a new power PC, and an older I7 920, and a laptop.

The power PC runs Win7 Ultimate 64bit, the others run Win7 HomePremium 64bit.

I ideally want to be able to use remote desktop, MSTSC or something similar to remote FROM the Power PC to the others, but I can literally only do it the other way round.

As I see it there are three paths.

1) Upgrade Windows versions. I would consider this, I am not sure if you can any more???

2) Use 3rd party "remote control" software. Whats the best out there?

3) Some sort of "Hack"???.

Grateful for any suggestions/opinions or other options I havnt considered.

They are all running a W7 version so, mstsc (RDP) should work, sounds like a configuration setting issue, is Remote Desktop enabled on all your Home Premium W7 boxes? Are they all up to date with the latest version of RDP?

You dont get those options on the remote connection tab on the Home Premium machines, only the Ultimate one. I think its a license thing. You CAN remote from the home premiums but they cannot be remoted to.

As above, unfortunately Home Premium cannot be remoted into.

Microsoft

All editions of Windows 7 include Remote Desktop Connection.

You can use Remote Desktop to initiate a connection from any edition of Windows 7.

You can connect to computers running Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, or Windows 7 Enterprise.

You can't use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to computers running Windows 7 Starter, Windows 7 Home Basic, or Windows 7 Home Premium.

You can however, download software called "Concurrent RDP Patcher" and it will enable it access ;)

Use Teamviewer, create a free account and add all the machines to it.

I wouldn't use the RDP hack, any Windows updates to RDP will just undo it anyway.

If I cant get the built in TS to work I will try the 3rd party software, but my biggest worry is does the remote Pc appear in a window or can you maximise it out so it looks like the PC you are on?

I only say that as I have seen one system usee by a company that supports one of our systems at work and its laggy and looks intrusive.

Wheras I use MSTSC on PC's, albeit Windows XP, at work and you would not know it is another PC you are using. I even remote onto Windows Server 2008r2 servers virtual and physical and its just like your on the local machine.

One thing I should say first is before I did anything on my laptop it allowed me to connect! I havnt used it for 6 months so I wonder if that will be taken out by an update.

However on my old desktop, I tried the above patch and it did not work, neither version. I get the login box but the screen simply flashes on and off.

Tried RDPWrapper (https://github.com/binarymaster/rdpwrap) but I cant even fathom it, the install instructions refer to nonexistant files.
