What TV remote do I need for PlayTV? Is it the 'Official Sony Blu-ray Remote Control for PS3' or something else?

There is a sticker in the PlayTV box that seems to go on a remote.

Get the official Sony one, most the 3rd party ones aren't half as good. By far the best accessory for the PS3 ever if you use PlayTV or watch lots of movies imo.

Don't bother with the PlayTV sticker though, it's pretty naff, just remember what does what.

As for a 3rd party one that'll do the TV and PS3, it'll be pretty expensive as far as I know. The PS3 uses bluetooth, and most TVs are IR.

Quoted for emphasis.
Best thing is because it's blu ray, you can operate it from under the covers on a cold winters morning, so you don't even need to expose your hand to the elements when choosing your breakfast telly needs! ;)

I never knew that bluray could transmit information across the air :p

Well you can buy a cheap IR remote with an IR dongle for the PS3 which does everything except power it on. If you have a programmable remote then you can just use the dongle to control both the TV & the PS3 once it has learnt the codes..

Costs about £15.

If he's getting Play Tv, then that and the decoder might tie up all his USB ports (depending on which PS3 he has). Which will be a bit of a pain if he needs to charge a pad, or use the Playstation Eye at a later date.

Try doing it with an IR remote and see how far you get :p

Bluray is the disk that goes in the front, bluetooth is what the remote uses. ;)

Without the ability to turn the PS3 on, there's no point in having a separate remote imo. I like my remotes to allow me to function without standing up. ;) I'm more than happy to have more than one remote if it gives me full functionality.

Too true. On my 40gb (2 usb ports) I have PlayTV, PS3 Eye, Charging cable, External HDD, and usually a USB stick or Buzz. :(

Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated.

I've given my 40gb PS3 to my parents, set them up with PlayTV but they aren't getting on too well with using the sixaxis. I'll get them one of the official remotes, sounds perfect.
