The remote locking doesn't work on my car (2003 vauxhall astra). Basically I've tried replacing the battery and also by resetting it by turning the key in the ignition and then pressing the button but neither seems to work. The light on the remote doesn't light up and it seems this part of the key might be nackered. Is there a quick fix or is it going to be costly to get a new one?

Is it just the remote locking or the alarm?......if the remote locking works via infra-red of which some do, do this:
get a digital camera and view the infra-red emitter through the camera, if its working you will see the light being emitted.
I kid you not.
It saved me from a very expensive con by mercedes once. I needed a replacement key fob at 150.00 they tried to tell me it was the ignition barrel at a cost of 450.00 plus a new key and a new red key to program it or something at another 250.00.
