A customer of mine is expressing interest in having an automated backup solution put in place because the current setup of rotating two external hard drives does not always go to plan as no one person is in the office day in, day out. Everyone has busy schedules and they don't consider tape as an option either - it may be as convenient but somebody still has to remember to do it.
He suggested setting a site-to-site VPN between my office and his, and his server uploads a compressed backup to my place each night. They're on a 256k upload line and would have 3-4Gb of data. Say a full backup at weekend then incrementals on weekdays. Would this be viable?
Alternatively, what about remote online backup services provided by these secure datacentres that I hear of? Does anyone have any experience of any particular service; how well does the software link in with Server 2003, and what would the pricing be per Gb?
