Remote Shutdown of HTPC

would i not need a keyboard to type a password at logon everytime?

I thought of that after I posted it, so I ammended my original post for you. Basically, as long as you have an admin account on the remote PC, you can use these to do whatever you need to it, so the remote shutdown will work as planned :)

Start -> Run "control userpasswords2", untick the box that requires a username/password, and enter the details of the user account.

Also, in the Power options, untick the box for "Require password when the computer resumes"

This will give you a PC with an account with a password, but no need to enter it.

If you dont have the 'Run' command, you may need to enable it (Right click on Start button -> Properties -> on Start Menu tab, click customize -> Scroll down to run and tick the box and ok.) It should now appear when you click on the start menu.

Or press Windows key + R :)

(I use the keyboard shortcut all the time so actually didn't notice until I've just checked that it doesn't appear as standard on 7!)
