Hi guys, I work for a small education team that help schools

We have currently been using a program called unltra vnc http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/ it’s a great little bit of software, the only trouble is it requires the user to download the files and then install it, we wanted to use some sort of free single click remote support that will allow both the user and us to see the same screen. Windows remote logon is ok but that blocks the user, who is often fairly unskilled in IT as they are an school receptionist. They can have IT support but they have to pay for it, we want to be able to make there job easier and help them in a better way (i work for a small department in the Southampton council)

So can anyone recommend a good bit of VNC, software, perhaps something I can create a database with or a simple single click front end for the user?

Any info would be good as it’s all new to us

I generally use the free version of LogMeIn www.logmein.com however it does require the user to install software.

They do a version called logmein rescue, which is pay for software (but very reasonable) which you can send the person a link and once they click it, it gives you access to remote their machine from anywhere with a web browser.

It's fairly easy to write a script to install vnc onto a remote PC enabling you to then take control, then uninstall it once you've finished. If you still require it I'll post up the instructions.

follwing 6th's post..

i used to do this in work, using tightvnc

tightvnc with realvnc viewer is the best working combination i found, worked fine over the internet too, the low graphics mode from the realvnc viewer is handy

does this require any changes to firewall ports?

We use Kaseya for all of our remote users, fantastic bit of kit and it all runs through Internet Explorer :)

Dameware installs/uninstalls remotely - Not the best latency though...

You could also setup a script to install it for the users by double clicking an icon.

Or as suggested, have a script to install then connect.
BTW - logmein was designed to never need firewall ports opened. :)
