I am currently in the throws of expanding from a one man band business to a two man band business and currently all my data has been stored on my laptop which gets backed up daily at the office so my laptop is the offsite copy.

However moving forward my idea is to have 2 Synology NAS drives, one at the office with the live data and one home acting as a backup (I need to look into this a little further but it seems Synology has the feature to do it. I was planning to run 2 bay NAS drives in RAID-1 which should also give me some redundancy in case one of the drives fails also.

I do a lot of work on an evening which hasnt been a problem as Ive used my laptop with the data on it but I will somehow need to connect to the office from home (or a clients) to access the data. Can anyone recommend a solution for this? I am aware of logmein and teamvewier but wondered if there was a better solution to this? I have little to no experience with VPN but know this could perhaps be an option?

The bulk of the files are office based application but I do have 2 fairly large databases that are in constant use that may be a problem with the VPN option perhaps as not sure if using a VPN copies over the files locally?

Many thanks, Mark

To be honest, if it's just for yourself I'd probably stick with LogMeIn or Teamviewer. No point over-complicating things for just yourself.

Thanks for the response, I did think that it might be easier just to stick with LogMeIn or similar as it will only be me working remotely but I wasnt sure if there was a solution that would mean I wouldnt need to have a computer in the office to log in to but it will probably work out cheaper/easier to buy a desktop for the office as opposed to some VPN hardware.
