Remotely control a laptop?

Is there a program that can let me access an idle laptop (which is a couple of miles away)? So I can have like a screen inside on my desktop of the laptops screen?

Reason being I want to use my GF's bandwidth at night time for newsgroups and she does not understand how it works and I don't want to keep having to travel to hers just to set up downloads for heroes/24 ect

Windows Remote Desktop if its Windows. Or one of the others that are around. Logmei or VNC come to mind.

okay thanks for help so far guys

It is looking promising only prob is the VPN stuff and IP addresses. I was planning on setting up the laptop with my PC from my house so all she had to do was leave it on for me down hers.

Will the logmein software enable me to get it all set up at my house? Without setting up VPN's ect?

yes you can install logmein at your house with the laptop and then no matter where the laptop is, as long as it has an internet connection you will be able to access it.
