Hi,

I'm new to the Mac world, as a photographer i've bought a MacBook Pro which seems excellent.

However I use a removable HDD which I copy photos straight to the Mac with, I've got this problem where I can see the disk on the desktop when I plug it in, and I can even view files with Iphoto straight off the disk, but I cannot copy them anywhere onto the disk, or import them into aperture.

If I try it fails to copy any files then errors with "insufficient privileges" when i'm logged in as administrator...

On the other hand, if I plug my USB flash card in, it all copies/imports just fine..

Any suggestions? I;m running OSX 10.5.4

Cheers

  • Plug in the external hard drive.
  • Insert your OS X CD/DVD.
  • Restart the Mac.
  • Hold down "C" to boot from the CD.
  • At the top, click Menubar > Utilities > Disk Utility.
  • Click on the icon of the external disk.
  • Click "Repair permissions"
  • Wait.

You may or may not want to repair the internal disk permissions, which is why I've given you this procedure.

I tried what you suggested, although the options for repairing privileges were greyed out, I tried verifying and repairing it.. now it seems to be copying files properly. Thanks a lot :)

May just have been a funny glitch..
