We're in the process of buying a property that we want to remove the wall between the lounge and dining room.

I'm unsure if it is load baring, and appreciate that this will impact the costs and complexity.

We want, in the space where the wall was, to fit some bifold doors. This gives us the best of both worlds, a nice open space, and the ability to close it off if required.

Doors wise, we are looking at something like these - http://www.vufold.co.uk/internal-room-dividers/10ft-finesse-unfinished-oak - but would be interested in other options also of a comparable design and quality.

I'm after recommendations for a 'complete' solution to doing this, IE, a company who I can go 'see this wall, put these here'. I don't doubt I could probably give it a good go myself, but I simply don't have the time to do it.

Can anyone recommend a company who would be able to work in the Royal Wootton Bassett area of Wiltshire?

We've been looking at something very similar, only thing holding us off is of course getting up and finding a good joiner/builder.

We have a through lounge that has no 'frame' as it were so need to build out a stud frame to meet the doors.

Have you tried describing the job on Rated People etc?

Whether or not the wall is load bearing is rather a big one. If it is then you are into steels and structural engineer calcs along with building regs approval.

We had a structural wall removed to extend our kitchen into an extension last year. To give you an idea of costs; Calcs were a few hundred after shopping around with engineering firms, building regs a couple of hundred, steels + install £1500 and then the making good i did myself. I think all told it came to around £2000 without the making good.

Indeed regarding the costs if structural. Not too fussed though. Luckily we're fortunate enough to have money available to do the work now. I'd prefer to do it now prior to moving in !!

Rated people sounds like a good shout, but I'll take a personal recommendation - even off OCUK or Pistonheads when I've not met the person recommending before' over just opening the yellow pages. It's worked well for the last sets of purchases I've done (Mortgage, Life Insurance, Car Insurance & Home Insurance. Got to love the finance section on Pistonheads !)

Nice doors those :)

If you're looking for a recommendation apart from the above you could pop into a Howdens and look at their doors the ask for a recommendation of a builder for the work then tell them you want those.

I must say though I paid £80 each for the same individual doors (40mm veneered glazed) from Howdens so I don't see how £800 can be on mechanisms and hardware.
