How hard can this be? I tried windows movie maker (no joy), virtualdub, (works but saved a 13Mb mpeg into a 230Mb AVI ) Muxman, Solveig MM video Splitter, Geovid Video Splitter and TMPGENC and none have worked!!

Surely theres a small free program that'll just wipe the audio and save your mpg as video only?

Can you use the "Direct Stream Copy" option for the video stream in Virtual Dub with an mpg or does it insist on trying to recode it to an AVI?

If rpstewart's suggestion does not work (although I am sure VirtualDub(Mod)) can do it...

SUPER can...

drag & drop any Audio file or even any VIDEO file and EXTRACT the AUDIO part by converting it to aac, ac3, amr_nb (for ring tones), amr_wb, mmf (for ring tones), mp2, mp3, mpc (MusePack), ogg, wav, wma formats

do what rpstewart says

click 'video', then switch from 'Full processing mode' to 'Direct Stream Copy'

will take about 2 seconds to save it :)

vdub only encodes avi not mpg but you could encode it as a lossless avi first then reencode it to mpg.

however you still will end up with a lower quality video as even tho its been saved as a lossless avi its still been encoded as mpg twice.
