hi guys.

i own a XFX DD BE 7950 3GB card.

i contacted XFX to ask if i could change the TIM on it (so that means iv removed the warranty stickers over the screws) and that my warranty would still be ok #. well, they said its fine because i asked :D..

so.. i stripped of the cooler earlier. (first ever on a GPU :D )

and i noticed the' pads' over the vram.

i left the pads on, and just changed it on the chip.

after putting it all back together, and running some valley runs, the temps didn't really change much ?

Should i have removed the pads on the vram and put TIM on them ? so its direct contact with the cooler or not ?
and how come it hasnt really changed the temps on the core ?
iv used some top quality TIM from a review i seen on here.

any tips/advice/answers would be great :D

cheers

i changed it because i got told (some time ago now) that factory tim isnt that great.

and iv also seen other people say they have changed it on other 7950's/ etc etc and its knocked like 10c off..

unless they where just BSing .. lol

The TIM is fine, unless you plan on actually changing the cooler you will barely see any improvement, and that quote seems a bit off, it's fine because you asked?

Yeah good luck trying to RMA that card and holding them to their promise.

got it in writing my friend, so they got no choice :)

iv had plenty of XFX cards in the past, and tbh, iv never had any issues with RMA. its allways been straight forward.

but again, its personal opinion.

and with the "got it in writing". well if it turns out they 'wont' do a RMA because iv removed the cooler, then i will fight it all the way.

most TIM that comes applied to your GPU is of good quality, However this CAN dry out, If you are experiencing terrible temps then you change it otherwise just leave it max you will see is maybe 1-2c better and most times the temp will be worse thanks to your application of the TIM.

I had quite good results when I changed the Tim on an iceq 7950, a noticable drop in temps. It completely Depends on how good the original application was and how good your new application is obviously.
