Whats the best way?

It's not mine and I can't be bothered reinstalling it.

There is a standard account with no password on but need to remove the admin account password.
 
to remove the password download
hirens boot cd http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd
then burn the image to a disc and boot the pc with it (you might have to change the boot order in the bios)
then run windows offline nt & registry editor, but this can be complicated.

the easiest way, is to download ophcrack http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/download.php and do as above, burn to cd and boot with it.

ophcrack is virtually automatic. let it load up and select the user gui (the top option).
then let it run for about 10-15 mins.
it will now reveal all the passwords on the pc.
write these down.
make sure to exit the program properly before shutting down pc.
now take out cd and boot into windows OS.
now type in the password

ps. i use imgburn to burn the iso image to disc, but if you have nero, this can also be used, also windows 7 has a image burner built in
 
Other method is password recovery if you have the original cd/ or system restore. Tbh though, just get yourself a copy of win 7 - good excuse!
 
You needn't to reinstall your system.

There is plenty of third party windows password recovery software available online. All of them are designed to create a windows password recovery disk. You could choose one of them to recover windows password.
 
I use Offline NT Password and Registry Editor but there are about a million other tools out there. Really simple and quick to reset a Windows password

Step 1.Login to a PC which can link to internet,Download and install the program from http://www.lostwindowspassword.com in that PC

Step 2.Run the program and burn to CD/DVD OR USB flash drive

Step 3.Turn to your locked PC,insert the newly create CD or USB to your drive.Reboot the Computer and then follow the instructions,it is very easy to use.
