What's the best program to remove a hum from a sound file? It needs to be free. I have tried Audacity which seems OK using the "Noise Removal" effect, but it's not great...

Are there any other suggestions, or any tips & tricks, for doing this?

use Audacity and use EQ to remove noise below 50Hz (i'm gussing it's 50Hz mains hum), obviously you are going to lose all of the bottom end off the audio, but there's little that you can do unless you can re-record it from source without the hum.

Unfortunately not :(

I've got the CD's that need fixing now and I thought it'd be a low hum but it's actually a high pitch hum, maybe from a laptop hard drive or fan. Audacity seems to get rid of it well enough, albeit with somel loss :)

Thanks

You can send me a track, i'll see what i can do.

It's worth me giving it a go, tbh, you got nothin to lose.

EDIT: just read post number 3
