Anyone know how to remove an openreach fibre ONT from the wall? The small white ones with 4 LEDs at the top
I thought it might just be slide up and pull. It does slide up about 5mm but it doesn't come away even with a good tug. Looks like there's 2 screws holding it onto the wall.

Officially it belongs to Openreach and shouldn't be disturbed.

I hardly think they're going to come knocking on the door to have you because you unhooked the ont from the wall to decorate

It definitely does unhook off 2 screws anyway. I remember watching mine being fitted.

Just do be very careful with the fibre optic line.

Thanks for the pic very useful. I thought it was something like that. Just needed a flat blade to help pry it off the screws.
You can get relocation kits, so you must be able to take if off the wall.

You can't get relocation kits from Openreach though - it's also not *that* expensive to pay them to come and move all the cabling for you if you want it.

Please put some tape over the fibre socket on the ONT if you're leaving it unplugged, and put the fibre plug in a little bag. Dust is bad.

Thanks andy, a firm push upwards was all i needed. My ONT was installed in a big ugly Terminal Access box and couldn't see how to separate them. Don't see why the tech did this - two neighbours just had the ONT screwed direct to the wall.
Anyway as others have said there is no reason why you shouldn't relocate the ONT as long as you dont bend it sharply - Openreach recommend no bends smaller than a £2 coin.
Spare optical cable is coiled up in a small box beside the ONT but you can also buy extension cable.

No surprise it can take a bit of force.

Before final OR install I prepared everything with internal loft flexible smooth wall conduit from eave entry point, board for CSP in loft and conduit from there down into my server cupboard to a brush strip exit box, so all the drilling the engineer had to do was two holes for the ONT using its template.

Sadly drilling the two holes accurately was a step too far and he got them out of line and despite my suggestion to drill another hole and use a plastic shim/half rawl plug I could provide, he spent several minutes hammering the screws until he could force it down onto the screws :D. Once he left I fixed it quicker than he took hammering those screws!

Be very careful if you are going to use cable stored in the wee box. Don't take out the cassette but just wind it off carefully. The joint between the sheathed cable and the bare fibre is there and it is very delicate indeed. Leave at least a couple of turns of sheathed cable on the cassette. You are better off using an optical extension.

My OR engineer didn't screw the screws in quite far enough so the box had play. He hadn't started the van before I'd pulled it off and turned the screws in for the super "stusfying" friction fit.
