I have Vista installed on a partition from the beta stage,
It is dual booting along with XP Pro,
I want to remove the Vista install but the boot menu i get at start up is the vista one,

If i just format the Vista partition from within XP i guess i am asking for trouble ?

What do i need to do to remove Vista and leave XP (which is on the C drive and the first OS installed to the system) happy and booting ?

Thank You

I'm fairly sure you could just format the Vista partition and use a boot loader program to remove it from the startup choices.

I'm not totally sure though, hopefully someone can clarify this for me. :)

Would i be right in thinking that if i format the Vista partition, as XP is on the C drive it will just go back to useing the boot.ini file in XP to start up ?

You don't need any third party tools. I followed this, sorry can't remember where I found it:

After playing around with Vista for a few days, you may want to remove it from your system, and reclaim the hard drive space. Microsoft has made this step very simple as well.

Boot your computer in to Windows XP.

Ensure you have the Vista DVD image emulated or in the DVD drive.

Go to “Start” and “Run”. Type in “e:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt52 ALL /force” (without quotes, and replacing e: with the drive letter of your Vista DVD).

Restart the computer, and you will notice the boot selection menu is gone.

Format the partition/drive where you had Vista installed.
Remove two files (Boot.BAK & Bootsect.BAK) on your XP drive’s root folder (C:), these were backup files of your previous bootloader, now no longer useful.
Optional: Restart to ensure it still works.
Use your partition software to merge your partitions together.

Sorry to drag this back from page 4 or 5 but just wanted to say thank you
It has been a few days since i had a chance to look at his, the VistaBootPro sounded nice and simple, thanks no_1_dave, but i didn't use that method as i have not booted into Vista for some time, and i think it expired several months ago,
Bossk128 Thank you, i ended up using that method, and with fingers crossed at the first reboot, XP started with no boot menu,
That has now been copy/pasted into a txt file for future reference.
Thanks to both of you for the methods.
