hello,

been playing Oblivion and was encountering frequent crashes (complete reboot). Read that starforce was a potential problem (didnt know what it was initially) and found it on my system (splinter cell CT seems to be the source) so I uninstalled it with the reccomended uninstaller. Since then, my memory performance has been slower - loading when entering rooms, and when exploring outside causes brief stutter while loading (was not happening before). I havn't experienced any crashes since (I have not played too much since removing starforce though), but have been wracking my overworked brain trying to fix the problem. Has anyone else experienced this, and any suggestions on how to fix the problem. I wasnt sure which forum to put this in (maybe general hardware or memory) but thought I would start here as it is obvioulsy related to starforce.

cheers

thanks for the info guys, Im not blaiming starforce, I don't have enough knowledge of their drivers to be critical of them, I just read that it was a potential cause for concern. After playing Oblivion for a while more, I have still had identicle crashes so as far as Im concerned, its not starforce at fault for that, but im just confused why simply removing their drivers using the utility they reccomend has caused a slow down system wide. Its interesting that it caused a raid array to crash, as I running a striping array, so I will check that out and report back if I manage to nail the problem.

Forgot to mention, since removing starforce, the crashes are only to the desktop now, not a bsod into a reboot.

Im gradually going through the registry and removin all the starforce entries, hoping this is gonna resolve my performance problem. Starforce was definately causing my machine to reboot during gameplay, Ive had one crash today (I uninstalled starforce yesterday) which is a big improvement. Ive been readin up on starforce, and many people seem to have lost raid arrays from installing it, so keep that in mind. Gonna reinstall windows 2morrow, quite annoyed as ive kept my system clean for 18 months from viruses, spyware, you name it. I also discovered that one of my sata drives (which wasnt striped and has never been since i bought it 9 months ago) is all of a sudden on its own stripe array! Sorted that out, but defo points to starforce messin with raid arrays. Can safely say that I wont be buying any starforce games.
