I hope this is more suitable here than general discussion, as I assume people here have fiddled around with phone sockets for ADSL and other reason. Anyway on to my question. I have a phone socket in my kitchen, which now after I have had the kitchen redone is no longer of use and I want to remove the phone socket.
How would I go about this? I don't know how the phone wiring is done so I don't want to disconnect this socket and fine I have lost connectivity in another socket or something. Can i simply cut the cable and tape each exposed wire, then pull the cable back through to the source (I think it connects to a main phone socket near my front door which has 2 sockets (1 for each line)? Also, is removing the cable from the socket a simple thing with standard tools or does it require a specialized tool?
Also I remember that there is a very small electrical charge that comes on the phone line to power old style phones, is this something to care about? or is it too small to care about any electrical hazard?
