Got a Phenom 2 955 BE overlocked to 3.8ghz (overlocked by overlockers.co.uk not me) and i want to remove this overclock and go back to its stock speed.

How easy is this to do and where can i find a guide on how to do it ?

Motherboard is a Gigabyte MA790XT-UD4P

Pull the battery from the board, or use a cmos reset jumper/button if there is one.

Remember to pull the power from the wall.

Edit, there is a CMOS jumper right next to the battery, just short the two pins for a few seconds.

Would it not be easier just to dial down the multiplier and frequency (if even changed) and set voltages to auto? Otherwise you risk messing other stuff up like storage settings and so on, which may stop the machine booting entirely. Depends on how savvy the OP is. Shouldn't be hard though?

Maybe also OcUK provide a stock profile in the BIOS too?

im about as un savvy as it gets, so much so that i don't even know what a jumper is or how i "short two pins" or what that even means.

removing the battery sounds kinda simple though ! can't go wrong with that surely ?

Just go into the BIOS, and put the settings back to what they are for stock. But may I ask, why are you wanting to remove the overclock?

o dear.

A jumper is two little metal pins next to each other, use a flat blade screw driver to touch them both.

Look for something that says "Load Optimized Defaults." Or anything along those lines. it should either be there as soon as you get into the BIOS or it should be under the save/exit tab.

Either way it wont be hard to find. Shorting the pins will have the same affect, however it saves you a lot of hassle if you don't know what your doing.

Why do you want it removed anyway? A little overclock is always nice.

Look for the keypress to enter "setup" as soon as your turn the pc on. Usually "F2" "F10" or "Del" To access the BIOS.

Thats a cmos clear jumper.

Best way for you is to enter the BIOS (del or F1 or something on startup) and load optimised defaults as said previously.

Why you do this?

is the computer too loud with the overclock or something?

if its not stable, then post a message in the customer support section and they'll have you sorted out in no time. only reason i can see to remove an overclock is if you want quietness
