¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I have a 2nd hand motherboard, and I need to remove the southbridge heatsink and it's small and rubbish.

The only problem is that the previous owner used epoxy to glue the heatsink on. :(

Is there any way of removing this without ripping the chip outta the board?

Personally I wouldn't risk it if it was full strength epxoy. It may be possible if it's not a naked core like some of the more recent boards but it would still be fairly risky.

It's deffo a naked core. Dfi ultra infinity (nforce2 jobbie)

It looks like araldite or something like that, so even if I got it really hot, I doubt it would come off! :(

I'll leave it for now, maybe try to get some airflow over it or something. This chip does tend to get quite toasty tho... I'm sure I'll think of something. :)

I tried doing that to a duron. Poor thing didnt stand a chance. Chipped the edge off, the epoxy stayed on the chip, and it died. Its really not worth trying it.

Hmm, maybe I could grind the heatsink flat, then stick a bigger heatsink on the ally slab. :)

It would take a fair bit of grinding tho  and it would have to be done while on the board.
