Hi folks,

I bought an i7 from OCuk a few months back. It's main use is music production - at the time I had two choices.....

a) have the overclock installed by OCuk with 6gb ram.

OR

b) have no overclock and get 12gb ram.

I decided to go for "a" however I have some hefty programs running and I think the 12gb ram would have been the better route to take.

I contacted OCuk who said that I can just turn their profile off in the bios. Now my problem is I am a bit of a clampet and am fearful of wrecking anything!! So I was hoping the good people of the OCuk forum could help.

- can someone give me a BABY STEP/IDIOT guide to changing the profile in the bios so it is back to 2.8 and not 4.

- is it possible to change this back IF I decided to go back to 6gb ram in the future? Likelihood of this happening is remote but curiousity killed the cat and all that shizzle..........

Many thanks for reading and if you can help then you're just one of the good guys :)

Go into bios, load optimized settings, save and exit, this will revert the system back to stock. If you do decide to go back to 6gb and the overclock, simply load the ocuk profile saved in bios. Also a good idea to note down, or take a few screenshots of the overclock settings, in case you ever loose the profile.

i would personally try the overclock with the extra memory.

you would most likely need to do some fiddling to get your bundle stable with 12gb though.

if you need 12gb, why not consider selling your kits and buying a high density 3X4gb kit of vengence?

that will most likely work a lot better with your configuration.

If you are getting another 3x2gb and maxing your DIMM slots. It'll be tough getting your OC to the same speed as you have it now if it's over 4ghz.

But if you're getting 3x4gb then it'll be a bit easier :)

Agreed, a 3x4GB kit (12GB) would be a lot better than 6x2GB kit (12GB) as you can still run the OC.

So best of both worlds just means alittle extra outlay but definatly worth it.

Oh happy days, I thought it was a complete "no, no". In that case I'll definitely get the 3x4gb ram and keep the 6gb that I have for a refurb that I have been talking about doing for years but have never had the balls (or time) to actually start.

Thanks a million for the advice everyone, I really appreciate it.

Went in to the bios this evening and couldn't see "load optimized settings" - so hit load settings default and that seems to have done the trick in removing the OC - do you's reckon this is OK!!

I decided on removing the overclock in the meantime and upping the ram to 12gb. I may reinstall the overclockers OC in the future and get the 3x4gb ram (and use this current ram in a different machine). Just thought this option was the best for me at the minute. Hopefully I've done the right thing and have removed the OC ok.......

Cheers folks :)
