I have an audio question. When recording using my Rode NT1, I'm noticing quite an audible buzz. Obviously it gets louder if I turn the mic volume up.

Here's a recording I just made -

I guess there's not going to be a simple answer, but what might it be? Cheap cables? Cheap power to the mic (InnoGear IG101)?

Might there be filters in Audacity to help with it?

Any help is appreciated.

This is very audible. You can do 5 second silence and then you can remove the noise. I believe it's noise removal tool in audacity. However this sound similar to my blue yeti (I know it's a usb mic) But it was defective so I sent it back.

Do you have maybe a friend or local audio store that you may be able to pop in to check if maybe it's a mic.

Also I had similar problems in my computer and when I connected normal cheap clip on mic it sounded similar and at the end it was faulty sound card in my pc so it might be worth checking if your inno gear ig101 isnt faulty ? Do you have maybe any other mic to connect (could be any cheap mic just to see if noise goes away) ?

Good idea. I do have another mic knocking around, I'll connect it up tomorrow for a comparison.

The other one isn't powered, will it be fine going through the Inno Gear?

My investigations.

I've tried a different mic - still buzz

I've unplugged the mic - still buzz

I've turned off the InnoGear IG101 - still buzz

I've unplugged the InnoGear IG101 - no buzz

To me it's strange that even off, the power supply makes the buzz, remove the power lead and it fixes it.

Is this the power supply, or I need better insulated cables? Or is it the earthing for the power supply I need to fix?

I tried what I think is a ground loop noise isolater and it made it much worse. I've been advised to get a different amp that will come in through USB, so have ordered one to try.
