right then

I want to remove the stripes from my swift as they look miserable now

anybody done this? I'm pretty confident I will be able to remove them easily

the problem I worry about is my car is 7 years old so I wonder how bad the difference in paint would be

anyone got any experience/handy tips?

Just heat them up a bit and they'll come off fine. Steam/heat gun/ hair dryer

What colour is the car? Certain colours will fade much more than others and leave more noticable marks. I dare say you'd get away with it on silver. Red/Yellow not so much

Think it'll be pretty noticable then - only one way to find out though.

Once they're off if you go over with a da/rotary it'll help

don't have access to them/cant afford them so pure elbow grease will have to suffice :)

I'll give the boot ones a go as they are the smallest

any tips for a good polish to use?
I use autoglym SRP at the moment but I'm guessing I'll need something a bit more aggressive?

SRP doesn't actually do anything - just uses fillers to hide swirls / scratches. Not actually a bad thing if you just want to dress the car up but won't correct anything.

I'm by no means an expert but something like meg's 105/205 will give more in the way of correction. You really need a machine of some sort though elbow grease won't be able to work it enough to make a good difference. Go on to detailing world and have an ask there, I dare say it's been done before.

You won't actually be able to "fix" it though, just make the appearance better.

I use to have a Red Fiesta ST with stripes, I used the mrs's hair dryer that worked a treat for most of the stripes. A piece on the roof left a whole stripe of thick residue though, used a wrag, some petrol and elbow grease to get it off.

I could slightly see the fade so t-cut, polish and a wax and it disappeared.
