Removing CMOS battery

How on earth do you remove the CMOS battery? It seems like it's welded to the motherboard. Need to do this to get PC working again. Have any of you done it before? Seems like I need to use excessive force.

The CMOS (BIOS) battery is this:

Take it out to reset the BIOS.
