Removing duplicate files.

I'd like to remove files where the contents are duplicates, presumably based on some kind of hash mechanism?

If there a simply way to do this built into windows, or will I have to download a third party program or write my own to do it?

I used to use a tool called DoubleKiller, there is a paid pro version but the free version was enough for me.

Worth a try I guess? It it brings up a results screen and asks you what you want to delete, So its safe.

I use AllDup (freeware) - the interface is a bit fiddly, but it gets the job done well enough.
