As per title really, front fan is annoyingly loud!! Wanna get it onto rubber mounting (supplied) but can't get to screws if you just remove the dust filter

Also, anyone recommend a decent front 200mm fan I replace it with should it be still noisey

Thanks

I replaced the front 200mm fan with a bitfenix 200mm fan.

Depth 20mm, Speed 500-700rpm so no need to remove the hard drive cage. Its no
air flow monster but its so much quieter than the standard fan. You may need a few bolts to secure the fan in place.

If you are removing the hard drive cage then get a deeper more powerful fan.

The case has a few clips on the inside on the case, unclip these and the front will pop off. I only did the first 2 on either side and was able to undo the screws.

I bought the Thermaltake. maybe i dont understand fan sizes...its advertised as 200mmx200mmx20mm. the front fan in the 650d is advertised as 200mm also.

however  the thermaltake is smaller, it measure 200mm from mounting hole to mounting hole diagonally (the fan blades are about 170mm). the 650d fan measures 230mm from hole to hole and the fan blades are 200mm.

WTF?

You can get the Bitfenix 230mm Fans for this case.

You have to get 230mm ones not 200mm ones as you correctly pointed out.

Current Corsair 230mm fans are 28.8db @ 92CFM
Bitfenix 230mm fans are <20db @ 115CFM

They cost about £10-15 each though!

the 650D fan isnt a 200mm fan to start with. They seem to have stupidly listed it as 200mm as thats the circumference of the fan, it is actually a 230mm fitment!

Lots of people seem to be buying 200mm fans and they dont fit!

The only problem is i *think* the case can only fit a 20mm deep fan unless you take the HDD trays out - if this is true it may limit us even more!

The only fan that has an issue with it being 20mm deep is the front one and if you don't have a ton of hard drives you can move the cage to the position infront of the PSU and fit a thicker fan just fine.

Thank you grimsheeper! thats a nice machine you have built there.

I have since fitted megaflows (they fit perfectly, no modding required) in the front and top and they move the air fine while being quiet - yes they are 230mm and i have moved my hard drive cage. plus i have added a second GTX 460.

Odd thing is the fan controller with the 650d had loads of issues and was blamed for the buzzing fans that annoyed everybody who bought one.

yesterday i hooked all my fans up to the fan controller in the 650d (the original with the alleged issue). its driving 2xmegaflow and 1x120mm perfectly - NO BUZZING.

i read that the replacement controller supplied by corsair appeared to only run the fans at one speed regardless of the switch position. i am guessing they fixed the fans speed to some constant that minimises the acoustic artefacts caused by the fan blades and front panel grill.

i am loving the 650D.

those swines! :P

Well i have an Aero CooL LCD Fan controller, so im not worries about that :D

Broken home is correct, i forgot to mention that it is only the front fan that cannot be more than 20mm.

Dammit!

I only have 1 drive and an SSD in this machine anyway so i may well get these other fans and move the cage back :)

LCD Fan Controller - flashy!

Hmmm, SSD - i considered it. Would appear they have some reliability issues - but more importantly i don't want to have to reinstall everything...

Why would you?

For starters, SSDs are totally reliable, no moving parts!!!? Ive not heard of one go wrong yet...

Secondly... you can just use a simple cloning tool to clone one drive to another, then reboot!

Ive just this minute found two 640gb drives lying about that ive had for ages, whacked em in and stuck them in Software Stripe move in Windows7 Disk management and they are both performing at approx 235mb/s read and write! Christ my SSD is only doing 285/275 so thats pretty special!

just one thread here

i have also read that cloning can be problematic, did you already have windows installed on a hard drive already? did you clone from a hard drive to SSD?

I do this sort of thing for a living, im a Microsoft Certified IT Pro, sorry that sounds a bit trumpet blowy...

Cloned plenty of system drives before without any problems :)

lol @ that thread. There's only 8 replies in there... cant be that wide spread? Ive never seen one go wrong yet...

The Linear fan controller and not the bog standard fan fix kit is much better than the old fan controller.

I've read the megaflows are good but I can't seem to find any that don't have LEDs.

their 200mm fans look good, but not as good specs as the Bitfenix ones, only slightly worse though...

However i couldnt find any 230mm ones?

The model i bought, that fits the 650d is;

Product Number CM/CM-R4-LUS-07AR-GP
Product Desc. 200mm CMaster MegaFlow Red LED

http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6474

I know it says 200mm (and not 230mm). this is why i originally got confused...asking the question about fan sizes etc.

looks like they do a transparent one and a black one also.
