Removing front panel from 650D

The model i bought, that fits the 650d is;

Product Number CM/CM-R4-LUS-07AR-GP
Product Desc. 200mm CMaster MegaFlow Red LED

http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6474

I know it says 200mm (and not 230mm). this is why i originally got confused...asking the question about fan sizes etc.

looks like they do a transparent one and a black one also.

But how are you getting that to fit at the front?? :S

goddamit this fan business is getting complicated!

the CM Megaflows seem expensive, and not as good a fan (spec) as the Bitfenix's anyway...ill just stick with those!

if someone would just make one in 20mm - all would be well!!

The reason the stock ones aren't brilliant is because they are only 20mm. It's not much hassle to move the drive cage to the position in front of the PSU.

I suppose... but then it looks ugly.

Not great for people who have more than 4 HDD's though i guess!

Seeing as i only have 3 drives i might look at some 5.25 to 3.5" brackets and mount them in the drive bays above and remove the cages altogether

Fitted a Megaflow to the front of my case today, seems much quieter than the stock fan, I snipped one cable from each of the LEDs too so no annoying blue lights.

Interesting reading this - having just bought this case and put the fans on the lowest setting the front fan is still pretty noisy (I can hear it whining away from the adjacent room) - probably the noisiest case I have experienced and I have had a few.

As I sleep about 10 feet away from my pc and sometimes leave it running overnight I am hoping that the linear fan controller is going to solve this - if not I will be seeking out those 230mm Bitfenix jobbies or a new case (again).:D

Edit: the 230mm Bitfenix are 30mm depth and the 200mm Bitfenix are 20mm depth - so I am guessing that the 200mm fans would fit as I don't want to move the hard drive cage??

You will never fix the problem of the whine unless you:

A: Move the hard drives back to the middle hard drive mounts and then space the front fan about 1cm-2cm away from the front mesh. Dont waste your money and purchase new fans thinking it will fix the problem.

B: Remove the font mesh.

What ever fan you put in, you will always have the whine. The reason this is caused is because the mesh infront of the fan creates positive pressure and therefore, creates the whine.

I have gone down route B and cut the front mesh out, there is no sound coming from this fan anymore.

thanks for that - how easy is it to get that mesh panel off??

I have to say yet again - reading any reviews for this case NOT ONE mention of this problem is raised in any of them ... I knew about this problem only because of threads on the official corsair forum and a couple of others but didn't think it would be this bad. I find it amazing that this flaw got by every reviewer on the planet and corsair themselves.

I have to say I was surprised too, maybe we are just picky :p

I used a Dremal like tool with a grinder end. Its easy if you have the tools.

Shame it aint just a case of kicking that front panel in - would get a load more pleasure than a dremel ... unfortunately this looks like too delicate a job for myself.:D

My fans don't buzz but they're pretty noisy. Clearly audible over the sound of the telly. The front one seems to be the main culprit. I've read elsewhere people saying that the problem is down to this fan being too close to the front grill and if it's moved away from this the sound decreases dramatically. I've even seen pictures of cases where the front grill has been cut out and where the bottom HD cage has been butchered to allow the fan to be mounted further back (using spacers I believe). Both of these 'improvements' are reported to give results.
