Hi all.

Just updated my Sony Arc S to ICS today.

First impressions.... rather disappointed.
From hugely reduced battery life to chuggyness.

So a quick question..... if I choose the reset to factory defaults option in my phone, will it go back to Gingerbread, or am I stuck with ICS now ?

I don't want to reset the phone if it's not going to have any effect. :(

Cheers

So went ahead and did the full on reset.

Still got ICS on it :(

But it does seem a bit more brisk :)

Can't imagine the battery life will have improved tho :(

But at least I've still got my health :)

Until later on in life you find out that your phone with its unoptimised software has given you cancer by leaking radio waves while it is in your pocket.

Sony: 1
Moonpie2: 0

Can you not root it and flash an older gingerbread official rom?

Damn those leaky radio waves :P

Well that's always an option if it really is unbearable, but I'll give it a couple of days and see how it sits now I've done the reset.

Well, I can confirm that the phone is now back up to 'almost' Gingerbread speeds.
Probably around 95% of what it used to be.

Unplugged the phone this morning at 7am and usually I have about 30-40% left when I plug it back in at 11pm..... let's see what happens tonight :)

Thats the sort of Battery life I get from my original Arc (not S) running stock Gingerbread 2.3.4

But when you install the ice cream sandwich.. How do you stop it from melting inside the phone? and surely you're tempted to eat it instead of installing?

I know I would be :)

It may sound bizzare, but at first when I installed ICS on my GS2 the battery life wasnt as good as GB. However I think over time, it has defo improved back to previous levels.

So I would wait and see if things improve.

Hi dudes (and dudettes)

Well, it's now 7:30pm and amazingly I still have over 40% battery on a day with above average usage !?!?
Literally no idea what killed my battery to death on the day I installed ICS.

So it seems I was a tad premature with my disappointment.
Battery seems to be like it always was, and the speed is as good as makes no difference to Gingerbread.

To reply to Stumble Bum, I think it might be by region.
They rolled out in the scandanavian/nordic countries first according to the Sony blog.
But people were claiming they upgraded in Canada, Saudi Arabia etc... soooo.... not entirely sure.

FYI, I'm in Shanghai (as my location says)

Depending on how they did the ROM upgrade they may have wiped out the battery stats which will mean the battery meter may be unreliable for a week or two.
