Removing leather gear cover on mondeo

No idea how I get my original one off, doesn't even say in my haynes manual, does anybody know?

Twist it anti-clockwise, it'll be a bit stiff at first but it'll go.

Or it will break like my old one in my Mondeo TD did.... Thats probably me being heavy handed though.

I'm well known for breaking things I should not....

Ripping off a cast metal door handle from my old BMW 7 Series, pulling off an airline on my HGV, smashing the door window on a Transit by slamming it too hard.... I've done them all!

But the plastic bit at the bottom has to be removed, how do I get that off?
