Removing lines from squared paper

I have a scanned image that was drawn on squared paper.

Is there an easy way to remove these? or do i have to try and cut the main image out?

are the lines a different colour? If so you could try selecting by colour and removing.

If not, you could try scanning in a blank sheet of squared paper, aligning it over the drawing, then make a selection using the blank sheet, delete on the drawing layer, whilst manually touching up any points where the drawing crosses a line.
