Hi,

My sister just called to say she has a problem with her Mac whereby she is spammed with pop ups and redirecting to random pages whenever she browses in Safari. She says it only just started happening.

From what she has described i think she was trying to find a way to convert her video camera files for Youtube and has downloaded some dodgy adware program. I got her to remove it but the Safari problem still persists.

Is there any decent software to scan her machine, something like Malwarebytes on the PC? My knowledge of Macs is limited to playing Sim City on the original Mac in 1989.

Thanks

can't comment on adware removal but have you tried "reset safari" and also reboot mac this should clear cache

also in launchpad is there any programs installed she didn't have before

Try sophos, it's free for macs..
One of guys picked something up when in the states, resetting and clearing the browsers didn't help, but sophos did pick up a load of stuff... We have a policy to clean wipe and reinstall if we get any affected machines at work, so that's what I did instead.
